About the coin: July 8, 1974 The "Declaration of Citizens' Rights and the Basic Principles of the Legal System of San Marino" clearly highlighted an important moment in the political and institutional life of the Republic. It was the first time since 1906 that the principles of separation of powers had been enacted into law. The document clearly defined the functions of the Regency, the Great and Universal Council, the State Congress and the judiciary, emphasizing their separate autonomy and independence. Law no. 59, adopted in 1974 on July 8, the basic rights of citizens were confirmed, while establishing the basic canons supporting a free and democratic community. This community has its roots in centuries of history of independence and is now looking to a future of progress and peace.
